KSRX is the National Weather Service's NEXRAD weather radar for Fort Smith, listed by the Radar Operations Center as the Western Arkansas radar. The antenna stands at Chaffee Ridge in Sebastian County, Arkansas, about 11 km south-south-east of Fort Smith, 7 km from Barling and 13 km from Greenwood; Pocola, across the state line in Oklahoma, is 12 km away.
The radar is run from another state: the NWS Tulsa forecast office in Oklahoma is responsible for it, alongside its own Tulsa radar, and that office's area takes in seven counties of north-west Arkansas and 25 in eastern Oklahoma. The radar is a WSR-88D owned by the NWS. NCEI's archive of its data begins in February 1997, when Wikipedia says it was commissioned.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
