KSGF is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Springfield, Missouri. The antenna stands in Greene County about 9 km west of the city centre. The National Weather Service operates it; the Radar Operations Center lists the Springfield forecast office, at 5805 West Highway EE, as the responsible office.
The office's own history records its move to 5805 West Highway EE on 1 November 1994, the dome being placed on the new WSR-88D on 16 November 1994, and the radar's commissioning on 14 September 1995, the date the Radar Operations Center also gives. The same history notes that a weather surveillance radar was commissioned at the Springfield office in 1957, and that the office had been at the Springfield-Greene County Airport, 7 miles northwest of the city, since 1945. NCEI's archive of KSGF data begins in April 1995. The tower is 25 m high. Nixa, Ozark, Republic, Willard and Bolivar are among the nearby places.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
