KRGX is the National Weather Service WSR-88D weather radar for Reno, Nevada. The antenna stands on the summit of Virginia Peak, the highest point of the Pah Rah Range in Washoe County at 8,370 ft (2,551 m), about 39 km northeast of Reno and 35 km from Sparks. The peak is public land administered by the Bureau of Land Management. The Radar Operations Center gives the radar's location as Nixon, a settlement in Washoe County that is the seat of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe's government, and NCEI lists Nixon as the station's other name.
The radar is part of the NEXRAD network. The Radar Operations Center lists it among the NWS sites in its Western Region, with the Reno forecast office responsible for it. It was commissioned in February 1995; NCEI's archive of its data begins in June 1995.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
