KLRX is the National Weather Service WSR-88D weather radar named for Elko, Nevada. The antenna does not stand in Elko: it is in Lander County, about 16 km northeast of Battle Mountain, the county seat, and 88 km west of Elko, and the NWS lists the site simply as Elko.
The radar is part of the NEXRAD network. The Radar Operations Center lists it among the NWS sites in its Western Region, with the Elko forecast office responsible for it. It was commissioned in February 1996, and NCEI's archive of its data begins in the same month. NCEI gives its height, tower and feed horn included, as 2,102 m, the highest of the three Nevada radars after Reno's.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
