KBBX is a NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar in Butte County, California, about 7 km west of Oroville and 4 km from Thermalito. The National Weather Service lists it as Beale AFB. The Radar Operations Center places it among the network's Department of Defense radars, with the Sacramento forecast office holding its control facility.
The base the radar is named for is not beside it. Beale Air Force Base is in Yuba County, outside Linda and about 16 km east of Marysville and Yuba City; Linda is about 42 km south of the antenna. Chico is 31 km to the northwest and Sacramento about 100 km to the south.
Wikipedia's list of NEXRAD sites gives October 1996 as the start of its data record.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
