KDAX is a NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar in Yolo County, California, about 7 km southeast of Davis and 18 km west-southwest of downtown Sacramento. The National Weather Service lists it as Sacramento. The Radar Operations Center gives the antenna's location as Davis, and NCEI carries Davis as an alias; the Sacramento forecast office is responsible for it.
The same office also holds the control facility for the Beale AFB radar, KBBX, to the north. Woodland is 21 km to the north-northwest, West Sacramento 16 km to the northeast and Dixon 14 km to the southwest.
Wikipedia's list of NEXRAD sites gives January 1994 as the start of its data record.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
