KPAH is the Paducah weather radar, a NEXRAD WSR-88D operated by the National Weather Service. The antenna stands beside the Paducah forecast office in McCracken County, Kentucky, just north of Barkley Regional Airport and about 15 km west of the city, and that office is responsible for it.
The office's history says the WSR-88D dome was raised on 23 November 1994, construction was completed on 16 December 1994, the radar passed its 72-hour acceptance test in February 1995 and it was commissioned on 13 September 1995. The office itself grew out of a small weather office in Cairo, Illinois and opened at Barkley Regional Airport in 1984. Metropolis, Illinois is about 10 km to the north and Mayfield about 38 km to the south.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
