KNQA is the National Weather Service NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar at Millington, Tennessee, in Shelby County. The NWS names the station Memphis, and its Memphis forecast office, on Walnut Grove Road in the city, is responsible for it. The office serves the Mid-South: counties in western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, eastern Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel. NCEI lists the station as Memphis with Millington as its alias, and Wikipedia's list of NEXRAD sites gives 11 April 1994 as the start of its data.
Millington is a city in Shelby County in the Memphis metropolitan area and is home to Naval Support Activity Mid-South. The antenna stands about 2 km from Millington and about 27 km from Memphis. Bartlett, Cordova, Germantown and Collierville are the largest places nearby on the Tennessee side, with Southaven in Mississippi and West Memphis in Arkansas across the state lines.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
