KOKX is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for New York City and Long Island. The antenna stands at Upton, in the town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County, on the grounds of Brookhaven National Laboratory, about 60 miles east of the city. The National Weather Service operates it from its New York forecast office on the same site: the radar tower stands adjacent to the office, and the NWS describes it as the only Doppler weather radar on Long Island. Bridgeport and New Haven in Connecticut are 44 and 50 km away. The NWS lists the antenna at 199 feet above sea level.

The New York City forecast office moved from Rockefeller Center in Manhattan to Brookhaven National Laboratory in October 1993. NCEI's archive of KOKX data begins in January 1995. The NWS radar list names the site New York City/Upton, while the Radar Operations Center calls it Brookhaven.

Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
