KBOX is the National Weather Service NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar at Taunton, Massachusetts, in Bristol County. The NWS names the station Boston, and its Boston forecast office, which has been at Norton since March 2018, is responsible for it. The office moved from Boston to a new facility in Taunton's Myles Standish Industrial Park in November 1993, and the 1990s brought it a new Doppler radar. NCEI's station record for the radar begins in December 1994, and Wikipedia's list of NEXRAD sites gives November 1994 as the start of its data.
Taunton is about 7 km from the antenna and Norton about 4 km, and the Gray, Maine office lists the radar as Norton, MA. Providence, Brockton, Fall River, New Bedford and Boston are the largest places nearby.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
