KDIX is the National Weather Service WSR-88D weather radar for Philadelphia. The antenna stands at Fort Dix in New Jersey, the Army post that forms part of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, about 64 km east of Philadelphia, 41 km southeast of Trenton and 18 km west of Toms River.
The radar is part of the NEXRAD network. The Radar Operations Center lists it among the NWS sites in its Eastern Region, with the Mount Holly forecast office, the office that serves Philadelphia, responsible for it; that office is in Burlington County, a little over 20 miles east-northeast of Philadelphia. NCEI files the radar under Philadelphia with Fort Dix as its other name. It was commissioned in January 1995, and NCEI's archive of its data begins in May 1995. A photograph of this radar is the one that opens Wikipedia's NEXRAD article.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
