KGWX is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar named for Columbus Air Force Base in north-east Mississippi. It is one of the Department of Defense radars in the network: the NWS Radar Operations Center lists it among the DoD radars, with the Jackson, Mississippi forecast office as the responsible NWS office, and Wikipedia describes the WSR-88D network as operated by the National Weather Service, the Federal Aviation Administration and the United States Air Force.
NCEI's station inventory and Wikipedia's list of NEXRAD sites both place the antenna in Monroe County, east of Amory and Aberdeen, while the base itself is in Lowndes County near Columbus, home of the 14th Flying Training Wing. The geography pass puts the base about 32 km south-south-west of the antenna and Columbus about 46 km to the south; Tupelo is about 53 km to the north-west and the Alabama line lies to the east. NCEI lists the station with WBAN number 53837 and dates its record from November 1995; Wikipedia gives a data start of June 1995.
The NWS Jackson office offers the Columbus AFB radar on its website beside its own Brandon radar.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
