KNKX is a NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar in San Diego County, California, about 5 km south of Poway and 25 km north-northeast of downtown San Diego. The National Weather Service lists it as San Diego, and the Radar Operations Center gives the antenna's location as San Diego. The San Diego forecast office, at 11440 West Bernardo Court in San Diego, is responsible for it and also runs the Santa Ana Mountains radar, KSOX, to the north.
Escondido is 23 km to the north-northwest, El Cajon 16 km to the south-southeast and Santee 11 km to the southeast. Tijuana, across the border in Mexico, is 46 km to the south.
Wikipedia's list of NEXRAD sites gives April 1996 as the start of its data record.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
