KYUX is the National Weather Service's NEXRAD weather radar for Yuma. The antenna stands at low elevation south of the city, about 26 km from Yuma, 12 km from Somerton and 12 km from San Luis; the border town of San Luis Río Colorado in Sonora is also about 12 km away. The NWS lists the antenna at 239 ft above sea level. The NWS Phoenix forecast office operates it, together with the Phoenix radar.
The radar is a WSR-88D owned by the NWS. NCEI's archive of its data begins in July 1996, when Wikipedia says it was commissioned. In December 2021 the NWS replaced its generator and fuel tanks under the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program, a set of upgrades meant to keep the network's radars in service into the 2030s. The NWS names Phoenix, Las Vegas and San Diego as the adjacent radars.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
