KSOX is a NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar in the Santa Ana Mountains of Orange County, California, about 9 km southwest of Corona. The National Weather Service lists it as Santa Ana Mts; the Radar Operations Center and NCEI give the name in full as Santa Ana Mountains. The San Diego forecast office is responsible for it and also runs the San Diego radar, KNKX.
The Santa Ana Mountains are a short peninsular range that runs about 98 km southeast from the Los Angeles Basin, largely along the border between Orange and Riverside counties. Orange is 20 km to the west-southwest, Santa Ana 23 km to the west-southwest, Riverside 27 km to the northeast and Los Angeles 62 km to the west-northwest.
Wikipedia's list of NEXRAD sites gives December 1996 as the start of its data record.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
