KMOB is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Mobile, Alabama. The antenna stands on a tower behind the National Weather Service Mobile office, on the southeast side of Mobile Regional Airport just off Airport Boulevard, about 19 km west of the city. The office moved there in 1994 and describes its location as under the big white ball. It serves 20 counties: 12 in south Alabama, 5 in southeast Mississippi and 3 in the Florida Panhandle, plus the coastal waters.
NCEI's archive of the radar's data begins in January 1995. Under the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program the radar received a new signal processor and a refurbished transmitter, equipment shelter and pedestal, the last of them in early 2023. Mobile, Daphne, Fairhope, Prichard and Pascagoula are among the nearby places.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
