KMAF is the National Weather Service WSR-88D weather radar for Midland and Odessa in West Texas. It stands in Midland County, about 12 km south-west of Midland and 20 km north-east of Odessa.
The NWS names the station Midland/Odessa. NCEI's station record carries the same name with Odessa as an alias, and the Radar Operations Center's site table gives the RDA location as Midland. The NWS Midland/Odessa forecast office, at 2500 Challenger Drive in Midland, is responsible for the radar, which the NWS owns. It is one of the 158 sites in the NWS WSR-88D list, with an antenna elevation given as 2,962 ft.
The WSR-88D network was deployed between 1992 and 1997, and its sites were upgraded to dual polarization between 2010 and 2013.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
