KLSX is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for St. Louis. The antenna stands at Weldon Spring in St. Charles County, Missouri, about 43 km west of downtown St. Louis. The National Weather Service operates it; the Radar Operations Center lists the St. Louis forecast office, at 12 Missouri Research Park Drive in St. Charles, as the responsible office and gives the radar site as Weldon Spring. The NWS lists the station as St Louis, and NCEI records Weldon Spring as an alias.
The Radar Operations Center gives a commissioning date of 15 July 1994 and a tower height of 30 m. NCEI's archive of the radar's data begins in August 1992. St. Charles, O'Fallon, St. Peters, Chesterfield and Wentzville in Missouri, and Alton in Illinois, are among the nearby places.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
