KCBX is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Boise, Idaho. The antenna stands in Ada County about 14 km south of downtown Boise, with Kuna about 15 km to the west and Meridian and Nampa to the northwest. NCEI lists the site as Boise, Ada County, with the antenna at 3,172 feet (967 m) above sea level.
The radar is owned and operated by the National Weather Service, and the Boise forecast office at the National Interagency Fire Center is responsible for it. The office's history page says the WSR-88D was installed on September 23, 1993 as the first weather radar in Idaho and the 47th of the new national network, was commissioned on January 11, 1995, and was upgraded to dual polarization on September 13, 2012.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
