KJAX is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Jacksonville, Florida. It stands at the NWS Jacksonville forecast office on the southwest side of Jacksonville International Airport, in Duval County, about 17 km north of the city centre. The National Weather Service operates it. The office serves northeast Florida and southeast Georgia.
The Weather Bureau moved to Jacksonville International Airport on January 19, 1971. The office moved to its present building on the airport grounds at 13701 Fang Drive on January 19, 1995, and the new office was equipped with the WSR-88D. NCEI's archive of KJAX data begins in July 1995.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
