KICX is the National Weather Service WSR-88D weather radar for Cedar City and south-western Utah. It stands on Blowhard Mountain in Iron County, about 20 km east-south-east of Cedar City and near Cedar Breaks National Monument. The NWS lists the antenna elevation as 10,757 ft.
The NWS Salt Lake City forecast office is responsible for the radar and describes it on its radar page as the one serving south-western Utah. NCEI's climate station on the site is named Blowhard Mtn Radar, at 3,260 m, and a reference account of the remnants of Hurricane Nora in 1997 records near hurricane-force winds observed at the Blowhard Mountain radar site near Cedar City.
In 2019 the NWS completed an environmental assessment for lowering the radar's minimum scan angle from 0.5 to 0.2 degrees above the horizon.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
