KGJX is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Grand Junction, Colorado. The antenna stands on top of the Grand Mesa at just over 10,000 feet above sea level, east of the city; the NWS gives the antenna elevation as 10,101 feet (3,079 m). Downtown Grand Junction is about 29 km to the west and Palisade 13 km away. The Grand Mesa is a large flat-topped mountain that stretches for about 40 miles east of Grand Junction.
The radar is owned and operated by the National Weather Service from its Grand Junction forecast office. NCEI's station record for it begins in June 1996. In 2019 breakers and cables original to the radar were replaced under the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program, the second project of that program at the site after the installation of a new signal processor.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
