KPUX is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Pueblo, Colorado. The antenna stands in Pueblo County about 44 km northeast of the city, and the NWS gives its antenna elevation as 5,363 feet (1,635 m). Colorado Springs is about 69 km to the northwest and Avondale 29 km to the south-southwest.
The radar is owned and operated by the National Weather Service from its Pueblo forecast office, and the Radar Operations Center in Norman, Oklahoma provides lifecycle management and support for it as for every WSR-88D. NCEI's station record for it begins in August 1995. In June 2022 the radar was taken down for about a week while its generator, fuel tanks and accompanying components were replaced under the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program, work meant to keep it running through commercial power outages when hazardous weather is present.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
