KBGM is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Binghamton, New York. The antenna stands in Broome County about 12 km from the centre of Binghamton and 10 km from Johnson City. The National Weather Service operates it from its Binghamton forecast office, which is at the Binghamton airport in Johnson City, a little over 10 miles from downtown. The office serves 17 counties in central New York and 7 in northeast Pennsylvania, including Binghamton, Elmira, Ithaca, Syracuse, Utica and Scranton. The NWS lists the antenna at 1,703 feet above sea level.
The radar was upgraded to dual polarization in April 2012. In April 2019 the office refurbished its transmitter under the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program and described the radar as 20 years old. NCEI's archive of KBGM data begins in March 1995.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
