KCXX is the National Weather Service WSR-88D weather radar for Burlington, Vermont. It stands in Colchester, Chittenden County, about 5 km north-east of downtown Burlington and just north-east of Winooski, on the eastern side of Lake Champlain.
The NWS Burlington forecast office, at Burlington International Airport in South Burlington, is responsible for the radar. The NWS names the station Burlington; the Radar Operations Center's site table gives the RDA location as Colchester, and NCEI lists Colchester as an alias. The office's area of responsibility is the northern two-thirds of Vermont and far northern New York, and Montreal lies about 115 km to the north.
Burlington's earlier NWS radar was a WSR-74, listed in the reference table of those radars as commissioned in late 1977 and retired in January 1998.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
