KBLX is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Billings, Montana. The antenna stands in Yellowstone County about 11 km northwest of the centre of Billings. The National Weather Service operates it; the Radar Operations Center lists the Billings forecast office, at 2170 Overland Avenue, as the responsible office.
NWS Billings' office history says the office moved from the airport to 2170 Overland Avenue in 1995 and that the present Doppler radar was established at the same time; the new office opened on 31 May 1996. The Radar Operations Center gives a commissioning date of 1 April 1996 and a tower height of 15 m. NCEI's archive of the radar's data begins in December 1995. Laurel, Lockwood, Shepherd, Park City and Columbus are among the nearby places.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
