KBHX is a NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar on Bunker Hill, on Bear River Ridge in Humboldt County, California, about 9 km south of Ferndale and 36 km south of Eureka. The National Weather Service lists it as Eureka (Bunker Hill) and runs it from the Eureka forecast office on Woodley Island.
The site is a remote hilltop and its grid power is not always reliable. In July 2022 the NWS took the radar offline briefly to upgrade its backup generator, choosing July because it is the time of year when the radar is least in demand locally. The office also uses the radar to watch smoke plumes from wildfires.
Wikipedia's list of NEXRAD sites gives May 1995 as the start of its data record.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
