KABX is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Albuquerque, New Mexico. It stands on Albuquerque's West Mesa, in Bernalillo County, about 17 km from the city centre and about the same distance from Rio Rancho. The National Weather Service operates it, and the NWS Albuquerque forecast office is responsible for it. The NWS lists the antenna at 5,951 feet above sea level.
NWS Albuquerque runs two radars: this one and the Department of Defense radar near Clovis at Cannon Air Force Base, KFDX. The office issues forecasts for roughly the northern two thirds of New Mexico. NCEI's archive of KABX data begins in August 1996; Wikipedia's list of NEXRAD sites gives September 1994 as the first operational date, and no official page opened states a commissioning date.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
