PAKC is the NEXRAD weather radar for King Salmon, in the Bristol Bay Borough of southwest Alaska. Naknek lies about 23 km to the west of the antenna and Dillingham about 110 km to the northwest.
It is a WSR-88D. The NEXRAD Radar Operations Center lists it as King Salmon FAA, one of the 12 radars in its Federal Aviation Administration group, and names the National Weather Service forecast office in Anchorage as the responsible office; the Anchorage office describes it as the PAKC (King Salmon) radar it operates.
In June 2018 its transmitter was refurbished, replacing breakers and cables original to the radar. The office called this the second major project of the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program, a series of upgrades meant to keep the nation's radars viable into the 2030s. New Stuyahok, about 94 km north, and Togiak, about 220 km west, are the other larger places in the region.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
