PAHG is the NEXRAD weather radar for Kenai, on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. The antenna stands north of the town, about 5 km from Nikiski and 20 km from Kenai itself, in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Anchorage is about 95 km to the northeast.
It is a WSR-88D. The NEXRAD Radar Operations Center lists it as Kenai FAA, one of the 12 radars in its Federal Aviation Administration group, and names the National Weather Service forecast office in Anchorage as the responsible office; the Anchorage office describes it as the PAHG (Kenai) radar it operates. NCEI files the station under Anchorage with Kenai as an alias, and Wikipedia's NEXRAD list does the same.
The radar has been through the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program. Its transmitter was refurbished in March 2019, replacing breakers and cables original to the radar, and in October 2020 the pedestal that turns the antenna was replaced; the office noted then that the radar and pedestal had been designed to last 25 years and had exceeded that life. Soldotna, Kalifornsky, Sterling, Salamatof and Ridgeway are the other places nearby.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
