KPOE is the Fort Polk weather radar, a NEXRAD WSR-88D on the Department of Defense side of the network rather than an NWS site, in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. The Radar Operations Center lists it among the DoD radars; the National Weather Service office at Lake Charles is the forecast office responsible for it, and the Shreveport office also links to it as one of its local radars. NCEI's station record for the radar begins in June 1995.
Fort Polk is a US Army installation about 15 km east of Leesville and 50 km north of DeRidder. The post was renamed Fort Johnson in June 2023 and back to Fort Polk in June 2025, and NWS pages have used both names for the radar. After Hurricane Laura destroyed the Lake Charles radar in August 2020, the Fort Polk radar was one of those used to fill the gap in southwestern Louisiana until that site was rebuilt.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
