KOAX is the National Weather Service WSR-88D weather radar for Omaha, Nebraska. The antenna stands at the NWS Omaha/Valley forecast office in Valley, a city in Douglas County about 36 km west of Omaha and 17 km southeast of Fremont.
The radar is part of the NEXRAD network. The Radar Operations Center lists its site as Valley, with the Omaha forecast office responsible for it; that office serves eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa. The radar was commissioned in April 1995.
Under the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program its pedestal, the shaft the antenna turns on, was refurbished and replaced in November 2019, with the radome lifted off by crane for the work. Its transmitter was refurbished in January 2020, which the office said completed the program's upgrades at the site.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
