KMXX is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar named for Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. The antenna does not stand on the base: it is about 30 miles east-northeast of Montgomery, just off State Road 49 in Macon County near Tallassee. It is one of the Department of Defense radars in the network. The National Weather Service office in Birmingham labels it the Montgomery radar on its site and says it operates it.

NWS Birmingham's history records that Doppler radar in Alabama began with this site, completed in February 1992, and that it has been known as the Montgomery radar, the Maxwell radar and the East Alabama radar. NCEI's archive of its data begins in October 1995. Under the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program the radar received a new signal processor and a refurbished transmitter, with the generator scheduled for replacement in March 2023. Montgomery, Auburn, Opelika, Tuskegee and Tallassee are among the nearby places.

Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
