KMRX is the National Weather Service NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar at Morristown, Tennessee, in Hamblen County. The NWS names the station Knoxville, and its Morristown forecast office, on Commerce Boulevard in the town, is responsible for it. The office serves much of East Tennessee and several mountain counties in neighbouring Virginia and North Carolina, and writes the airport forecasts for Knoxville, the Tri-Cities and Chattanooga. NCEI lists the station as Knoxville with Morristown as its alias, and Wikipedia's list of NEXRAD sites gives 29 November 1994 as the start of its data.
Morristown is the county seat of Hamblen County and lies in the Ridge and Valley region along Cherokee Lake on the Holston River. Jefferson City is about 10 km from the antenna and Morristown about 11 km; Knoxville is about 52 km away to the southwest. Sevierville, Newport, Greeneville, Kingsport, Johnson City and Maryville are the largest places nearby, with Asheville in North Carolina.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
