KIND is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Indianapolis, Indiana. The antenna stands on the southwest side of the city in Marion County, about 12 km from downtown. Plainfield is about 10 km to the west, Speedway 11 km to the north, Avon 12 km to the northwest and Greenwood 18 km to the southeast. NCEI gives the antenna elevation as 887 feet (270 m).
The radar is owned and operated by the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. The office says the radar was installed in 1993 and that the radar and its pedestal were designed to last 25 years; in October 2023 technicians replaced the pedestal as the third major project of the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program at the site, to keep the radar working for another 20 years or more. NCEI's data record for the site begins in May 1995.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
