KGRR is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Grand Rapids, Michigan. It stands in Kent County about 13 km south-east of the city centre, with Kentwood and Forest Hills each about 9 km away. The National Weather Service runs it from its Grand Rapids forecast office at 4899 Tim Dougherty Drive SE, which lists it as the local radar.
The NWS Radar Operations Center names both the station and the radar site Grand Rapids. NCEI's station inventory lists it with WBAN number 94860 and dates its record from February 1996; Wikipedia's list of NEXRAD sites gives a data start of September 1995. The Detroit office's history notes that the Grand Rapids forecast office was one of four created in Michigan when the weather service was modernised in the 1990s.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
