KDTX is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar for Detroit. It stands at White Lake in Oakland County, where the National Weather Service's Detroit/Pontiac forecast office is also located, at 9200 White Lake Road. Detroit is about 54 km to the south-east, Pontiac about 16 km to the east-south-east and Waterford about 5 km to the east.
The NWS Radar Operations Center names the station Detroit and lists the radar site as White Lake. The office's own history says a new forecast office for south-east Michigan was built in Oakland County's White Lake Township in 1992, merging the forecast office in Ann Arbor with the offices at Detroit Metro and Flint. The WSR-88D was being built at White Lake in 1993 and was commissioned in 1995. Before it, a WSR-74S radar had been commissioned at Detroit Metro Airport in 1984, and a WSR-57 had replaced the original WSR-3 there in 1961.
NCEI's station inventory lists the site as Detroit with the alias White Lake and WBAN number 04830, and dates its record from March 1995. Windsor, Ontario, across the river from Detroit, is about 58 km away.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
