KGRB is the NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar at the National Weather Service office west of Green Bay, Wisconsin. The office at 2485 South Point Road describes itself as about five miles west of downtown Green Bay and says it is home to the WSR-88D Doppler weather radar. It issues forecasts and warnings for 22 counties in north-east and north-central Wisconsin and for the north-west part of Lake Michigan. The NWS Radar Operations Center lists the station as Green Bay with the radar site at Green Bay, and NCEI records it in Brown County with WBAN number 14898, its record beginning in July 1995.
The NWS radar list gives the antenna elevation as 823 feet and the owner as the NWS. The radar's pedestal was replaced in a two week outage under the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program, the third major project of that program; the office said the radar had passed the 25 years it was designed for. When KGRB is out of service the office points to the Marquette, Milwaukee, La Crosse, Minneapolis and Duluth radars.
Hobart is about 3 km and Ashwaubenon about 4 km from the antenna. Howard is about 5 km to the north, De Pere about 7 km to the south-east and Green Bay's centre about 8 km to the east. Appleton is about 36 km to the south-west, Manitowoc about 58 km to the south-east and Oshkosh about 63 km to the south-west.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
