PGUA is the Andersen AFB WSR-88D radar, the only NEXRAD radar on Guam. The antenna stands in central Guam near Mangilao, a village on the island's eastern shore, about 2 km from Barrigada and 7 km from Hagåtña, the capital. Andersen Air Force Base itself lies primarily within the village of Yigo at the northern end of the island, about 12 km to the northeast of the antenna.
The NWS Radar Operations Center lists PGUA among the DoD radars and the NWS radar list gives the owner as the Department of Defense. NCEI records the station as Andersen AFB Agana. The base is run by the 36th Wing of Pacific Air Forces. The responsible forecast office is NWS Guam at Barrigada, whose local radar page is this station.
On 24 May 2023 the site was damaged by Typhoon Mawar as the eye of the category 4 typhoon passed over the northern end of the island. NCEI's archive of the radar's Level II data begins on 22 May 1995.
Radar shows rain, snow and hail, not cloud, and nothing below its lowest beam; far from the antenna the beam passes high above the ground.
